Green Jobs Corps project well under way at Clarence MTB Park

Dirt Art is well underway on a Green Jobs Corps project developing a fresh 2km singletrack loop at Clarence MTB Park in Tasmania. The project involves teaching trail building and conservation knowledge to a group of youths on a Newstart allowance. The trail itself will be a flowing, gentle climb up a mossy gully, followed by a fast, flow-down descent back into the main park area. The up route of the trail will also provide a much-needed link to the summit of the Meehan Range. Pictures will be posted up soon...

Triabunna Pump/Jump Track

Battling some wet, cold and frosty days the team recently wrapped up another jump/pump park in Triabunna recently. The design was for a beginner to intermediate facility that could be utilised as a fun, flowing jump facility that doubled as a pump track loop. The completed park can be jumped or pumped with lines for beginner or those looking for more air time. All going well the park should be open by the end of June.

Coastal jump trails- the Dirt Art team enjoys a week in sunny Bicheno

After over two years in the development phase it was smiles all round as the team set off up the coast to sunny Bicheno. This project was a set of beginner to intermediate jump trails nestled in amongst the local eucalypts. The challenge was to introduce a flowing set of trails while not disturbing the surrounding native flora- and I think the results speak for themselves...This is one of the best looking facilities we've built, and the views out over Tasmania's east coast beaches don't go astray either. The park was launched recently, and proved a massive hit with the locals. The facility includes a stage two trail network development, so watch this space.

Hobart gets a pump track...

3 days in May and Hobart City gets a new pocket pump track. With a footprint of just 10x20m this was always going to be a challenge, but at Dirt Art we live for a challenge. The finished product provides numerous line and direction change options in a tight little track with a good flow. Due to its size the course is not the easiest pump track you'll ride, but persist and you'll be rewarded. It is possible to jump right around the track for those with the skills!

With close to 1000m of vertical descending through pristine Wellington Park and into the nationally renowned Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park, this event is shaping up to be one of the biggest in Tasmanian Mountain Bike race history. Glenorchy Round 1 Nationals- done and dusted

Round One of the Jayco MTBA National Mountain Bike Series has now been run and won. Dirt Art presented a selection of race tracks that once again raised the bar in elite mountain bike competition, once again locking Glenorchy in as a rider and crowd favorite on the national circuit.

Dirt Art team members rode strong with John Darcey winning the elite enduro and Dirt Art director Simon French finishing strong in 13th in the elite mens DH. Josh Mcdonald also rode solidly to a top 30 finish into 27th in the elite DH.

Dirt Art once again served up a well-organised racing venue with exciting racing across all categories and classes.

Dirt Art and local volunteer trail builders have been busy of late building numerous new singletrack sections onto the already popular Clarence Mountain Bike Park cross-country trail. The initally short trail is now far longer and offers a huge variety of terrain including a nast new climb to test even the toughest of legs. The trail is now race-ready for the upcoming state series race with lap elite lap times now over 15 minutes at full pace.

Glenorchy MTB Park to host round 1 of National MTB Series

The weekend of December 12-13 will see the return of the MTBA National Mountain Bike Series to the Glenorchy Mountain Bike park in Tasmania. This will be the fourth time the Park has hosted the series, over this time Glenorchy has become a firm favorite with riders from across the country. This year the venue will offer all disciplines- cross-country olympic format, cross-country short course, cross-country enduro (new this year), downhill and four-cross/mountain-cross.

Dirt Art will once again be sprucing up the trails with plans to make some exciting new sections on the cross-country and downhill trails, and some revamping of the four-cross track. Punters will also have the chance to hit the newest additions at the park including, the new dirt jumps area and pump track, downhill jump track and dual slalom.

Kempton Dirt Jump Park nearly ready for launch

The Tasmanian midlands community of Kempton will soon have a brand new dirt jump park, with works near completion on the latest Dirt Art creation. The park has been designed to suit beginner to intermediate riders and will offer a variety of different jump and pump line options, including a larger 'trickable' box jump. Completion is due on the 24th August and the park should be settled in and ready to ride by the 29th August.

Dirt Art brings dirt jumping to Kempton Tasmania

In August Dirt Art is scheduled to construct a dirt jump park at Kempton, one hour out of Hobart. The park will bring a great mix of terrain to a town previously starved of riding opportunities. A small but keen group of riders have put together a pretty basic set of jumps just out of the town centre, this area will be revamped into a bike playground by the end of August 2009.

Downhill racing returns to Hobart

The Dirt Devils have booked in a winter short course downhill series to keep the punters happy through the colder period. Races will not have shuttles as courses will be only around 2 minutes in length. Prizes will be up for grabs at all rounds. Dates and details are as follows:

Round 2- Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park June 27th
Round 3- Clarence Mountain Bike Park July 4th

All races practice starts at 9am with racing from 11am.

Tasmanian Mountain Bike Strategy underway

The Tasmanian mountain bike strategy is well underway and will offer the blue print for mountain biking development and promotion for the near future. Dirt Art is working with Recreational consultants Inspiring Place on the strategy which is due for completion around August this year. The following information was recently posted by Keith Ryan from Sport and Recreation Tasmania:

There has been some chat on the forums about the development of a State Mountain Bike Plan - well it is official now. Sport and Recreation Tasmania have engaged Inspiring Place and DirtArt to develop the plan. The plan will provide the framework for developing and marketing mountain bike opportunities in Tasmania.

Mountain bike riders and other stakeholders will have the opportunity to provide input into the plan through a series of community and stakeholder forums to be held towards the end of June 2009.

This weekend Dirt Art opened up the brand new dirt jump park, pump track, and downhill jump trail at the Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park. The new jump park sets a new standard in the design and construction of public jump parks- proving that these facilities can be safe and durable, while providing an innovative and creative riding experience for everyone from beginner to professional riders. Work is well underway with the dual slalom track and 'Beginners Luck', the new beginner cross-country loop.

The Dirt Art team have spent the last week sculpting one of Australia's most progressive public dirt jump facilities. The main park layout is nearly finished, and includes some seriously smooth hip lines, berms, rollers, and transfers. The park is jam packed with line choices, and will soon incorporate a pump track. An intermediate and beginner line will go in next week before we move on to works on the new dual slalom track. The new jumps, and all the new park works will be open in the next couple of weeks...

Glenorchy Nationals race- huge success

The dust has settled on a near perfect weekend of racing at the Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park. Some of the world's fastest racers fronted to battle at one of Australia's most famous mountain bike parks. Dirt Art had spent two weeks prior to the event prepping the downhill track, and building a brand new short course cross-country loop. The event was the best yet at the park, with near perfect racing conditions, plenty of spectators, and some of Australia's finest trails. The formula one event of the weekend- the downhill race saw hot competition on a feshly prepared Dirt Art race track. The new track received raved reviews all weekend, as it challenged even the most advanced riders. Elite mens national series champion Josh Button has publicly claimed on a number of occaisions that this is the best downhill track on the national circuit. On behalf of the Dirt Art team I would like to throw out a huge thanks to all the event directors and volunteers who made the race such a success.

Glenorchy Mountain Bike park- set for nationals this weekend

The Dirt Art team have spent the last two weeks getting the Glenorchy Mountain Bike park in order for the upcoming national series round from 27th February till 1st March. Dirt Art are pleased to announce their support as a major sponsor of the upcoming Tasmanian national mountain bike series round at Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park. The Dirt Art team have spent the last 2 weeks re-routing and grooming the Glenorchy downhill trail in preparation for the event. The trail has many new and improved sections, which offer much better flow. The new and improved trail has harder advanced lines, and easier beginner lines, and is sure to offer one of the most talked about courses on the national circuit.

Along with extensive works on the Glenorchy downhill trail, Dirt Art have also constructed a purpose built short course cross-country trail. The short course offers plenty of room for passing through fast flowing trails, with numerous features along the way.

The national round will be held between February 27th and March 1st. Keep an eye out for the Dirt Art set up next to the big berms near the downhill finish area.

Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park- revamp begins

This week saw the start of a major overhaul at the Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park, Tasmania. The downhill trail has seen a major revamp ready for the upcoming national event, with some tasty new sections that improve the overall flow of an already epic trail. The trail has been made easier for beginner riders with much improved B and C lines, while the A lines have been made harder for the elites.

A brand new short course cross-country course will go in in the next week, offering a great mix of technical features, and flowing turns.

Upcoming works will also include: A brand new dirt jump park, A dual slalom trail and a downhill jump trail.

These works will go along way to slotting Glenorchy in as one of Australia's best mountain bike parks.

On March 1st Dirt Art is set to embark on a major overhaul of the Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park. The park was initially built for a very small budget, and while the park is renowned as one of Australia's finest, some areas of the park never received the TLC they deserved. Works will begin with overhauls of the downhill trail and sections of the cross-country trail. Both these trails will be groomed and adjusted prior to the national series round at the park on the 1st of March. Planned works also include a totally new and unique dirt jumping facility and pump track, a new dual slalom track, and a brand new downhill jump/freestyle trail. The works wil finish up with some serious grooming of the main village area. Dirt Art are please to have the opportunity to re-establish Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park as an industry leading facility.

Today was day one of works at the new Cove Creek dirt jump park and pump track. The facility is being built to cater for beginner to intermediate riders, and will be a totally new concept for public jump parks in Australia. The park incorporates a "freestyle layout" where riders can choose countless different line variations through double jumps, hip jumps, berms, and rollers. The infinite riding options at this compact jump park will ensure that riders enjoy the facility for years to come. The facility will be completed in early March, with a public opening to be announced soon.

Clarence Mountain Bike Park- near complete

We have just about completed the impossible- completing a full scale mountain bike park to a meticulous standard, in under 2 months. The Clarence Mountain Bike Park is near completion, with only top coating of the dirt jumps and mountain-cross, and some small link tracks left to finish things off. The park packs Australia's most diverse mountain bike park in to a small scenic valley on Hobart's Eastern Shore, and offers a vast array of terrain to suit riders of all abilities. While we have seen an improvement in volunteer numbers, overall the volunteer turn out has been poor, and more enthusiasm will be required to finish the park off.

Clarence Mountain Bike Park- week 4 update

Time flies when you are having fun, and the last four weeks have certainly flown during construction of the Clarence Mountain Bike Park. The dirt jump area is now in place, and will be watered, shaped, and top-coated early in the new year. There are countless line choices for all rider abilities, with lots of berms, hip jumps, rollers, and big transfer lines.

The cross-country course is getting nearer to completion, with only a few hundred metres of trail left to build. This trail has been carefully designed to be as fun as possible, with big rolling dips, groomed single-track, small rock features, and mellow climbs.

The mountain-cross track is starting to shape up, and works will continue in the new year. Expect a track with loads of line variation, everything from tight and technical through to big bold gap lines.

Work on the downhill trail, pump-track, and dual slalom will begin in the new year.

An launch day for the park is currently being organised, most likely in early February 2009.

On the 19th January Dirt Art will begin construction on a new dirt jump facility for Brighton City Council, Tasmania. The park design will cater for everyone from beginner through to advanced riders, and will offer many different line choices. The layout for the park includes a mix of jumps, berms, rollers, and a basic pump track. The facility will be complete in mid-February, with an official launch day to be announced in the new year.

Clarence Mountain Bike Park- 2 week update

Week two of construction at the Clarence Mountain Bike Park has just drawn to a close, and so far we are well ahead of schedule. Volunteer numbers have increased slightly, though are still well down on what they should be- particularly poorly represented have been cross-country riders. Email simon@dirtart.com.au for more information on volunteer days. So far the following has been completed:

- Around 2km of cross-country trails, including a mix of tight and technical, and wide open/high-speed trails.
- The green-grade beginner cross-country loop is all in, and is being groomed this week.
- The mountain-cross is in place and is being groomed and shaped this week.
- We have piled up all the dirt for the dirt jumps, and construction will begin there later in the week.
- Work has begun on the skills area and pump track, which will include a variety of drops, rock features, and other obstacles.

At this stage we are hoping the park construction will be finished by mid January 2009- around 1 month ahead of the original schedule. Stay tuned for more information of the opening day festivities. Three days in and work on the Clarence Mountain Bike Park is progressing nicely. We have shaped the mountain cross track, and will be grooming and shaping up jumps on the track for the next two days. After nearly three years of planning and politics Dirt Art is pleased to announce that the Clarence Mountain Bike Park is set to begin construction on the first of December. The park is situated on Hobart's Eastern Shore and is set to be Tasmanian's largest mountain bike facility to date. The park concept plan includes the following trails:

- Cross-country
- Mountain cross
- Dual slalom
- Skills development centre
- Dirt jump park
- Pump track
While the park design and construction will be managed by Dirt Art, the success of this project will rely on on a significant amount of volunteer labour. WAVO JUMP PARK- WATER SUPPLY IN SOON!

The recently completed Wavo Jump Park in Hobart is suffering a little of late due to heavy use, and dry weather. Dirt Art are working with partners to install a water supply at the site. This will allow us to keep the place riding well through summer, and means we can build some more interesting new lines. Wavo is one of the more innovative jump spots in the country, and will benefit greatly from a permanent mains water supply

The Dirt Art HQ concept track is finally taking shape, blending a unique mix of pump track, dirt jumps, and slopestyle, all in the confines of an urban backyard.
